Owl & Deer Face Off
Great Horned Owl
While taking landscapes we had this beautiful Great Horned Owl land beside us in a near-by tree. We figured because it was breeding season we should look around for any more owls and sure enough we found a family of three owls; we documented them for months until the fledgling could fly and they expanded into their territory.
Cormorant Drying its wing after fishing in Vancouver Harbour.
We had found this crab in a very tiny tidal pool on Galiano Island surrounded by seagulls. We decided to help him out and took him ashore, took his portrait and released him again away from the gulls.
Female Brewers Blackbird
This female Brewers Blackbird was not expecting this surprise shower while she turned her back to the lake.
A Chipping Sparrow perched on a post near a waterfall trail head.
One of the first shots we had taken of the Great Horned Owl Fledgling we had photographed for months.
We had found this poor frog in a grocery store parking lot in 40 degree weather. He was almost run over when we went and picked him up. How he got there who knows as there was a highway and roads on either side with the nearest body of water being kilometers away. We took him home and gave him a dish of water to lay in to cool down. We took his portrait and released him that night in a nearby pond.
A House Wren perched on a nearby stump.
A Killdeer leading us away from her nest. Killdeer nest on the ground in plain sight. When a threat approaches their nest, killdeer lure the threat away usually by faking a broken wing and when the animal approaches it it runs away again.
Big Horn Sheep
A Big Horn Sheep near a rock cliff.
This Blackbird snuck up on us and we turned around just in time to snap this portrait of her.
While out for a walk one day, we came across a ranch with horses, it was golden hour and the light was stunning. The flies made a beautiful golden bokeh and golden soft light from the setting sun.
Mother & Fledgling
This fledgling was annoying her mother and pecking at her while she was trying to find food for her fledgling.
Horse number two from our walk one evening that led us by a ranch. The golden light shimmers and the flies produce a beautiful golden bokeh.
While crossing the bridge from Kelowna to West Kelowna, we saw an Osprey every time spotting and hunting fish. We were curious to see if any fledglings were around and sure enough the Ospreys fledgling was in a nest above the water in the middle of the bridge.
A shot of one of the parent owls resting/sleeping at golden hour.
This Brewers Blackbird had landed right in front of us while walking and quickly picked up a snack while we quickly snapped this shot.
We photographed this Blackbird down by the water, he enjoyed playing with sticks.
